Being Prepared for Baby
Note: This post was written in collaboration with Little Remedies® prior to having our sweet little girl. Gabriella was born in November and I can’t wait to share with you all of the details! Keep an eye out for pictures of our miracle baby later this week!
I’m one of those that likes to be completely prepared for when the baby is to arrive. I’m not huge on surprises and there are already so many unknowns when it comes to having a baby. I try to find out the gender as soon as I possibly can and then I start working on the nursery. I like to feel ready. I’m quite proud of myself as I can officially say the nursery is finished and ready for baby to make its arrival. It’s a really good feeling knowing that I am ready if she decides to make her appearance earlier than planned. (Which I’m hoping will happen…trying not to get my hopes up!)
The bedroom that we transformed into a nursery had a very basic closet so we took it all out and decided to start from scratch. I had planned to buy a small closet system from Lowes but one day I was driving past a garage sale in my neighborhood and they had one for FREE! I stopped to check it out and was looking at the closet system trying to figure out exactly what it was, as it was all taken apart. They pretty much begged me to take it and said they would take it down to my house for me. I couldn’t tell exactly how well it would work but it was free so why not give it a try! I’m so glad I did because it looks great all finished.
We had to piece it together kind of like a puzzle. It came with two white shelves so after we secured the centerpiece we cut down the white shelves to fit the length of our closet. We then had some extra 1x4s in the garage so we put those on the wall to help hold up shelves. The small wood pieces on the side of the centerpiece were already there. We did move them around though as we wanted to do two shelves on one side and one on the other side. We have taken out a few of the closets in our home so we had extra parts to complete this project. I then painted the extra pieces white to match the closet. I’m happy to say we put this closet system in for totally free! That sure beats buying one!
A couple of small details I added to the closet was adding some boxes to help with storage and I mod-podged fabric onto the fronts of the drawers. There were a few scratches and dings and I wanted the closet to blend well with my room so I used the same fabric that was used in our crib bedding. I of course then added some pretty crystal pulls to the drawers. 🙂
All of the boxes are stored with various items such as bibs, diapers, shoes, and burp cloths. Something I did find important to make was to make a healthy container. Like I said before I like to be prepared so I wanted anything on hand to help my baby feel comfortable. I compiled a list of my favorite items to ensure everyone stays happy and healthy! It’s really important to me to find brands and items that are safe for your children and the age they are at.
- Little Remedies® Gas Relief Drops 1oz
- Little Remedies® Honey Cough Syrup 4oz (for my 3-year-old daughter Lucy)
- Sanitary Wipes
- Hand Sanitizer (keeping yourself healthy as well as your child is important)
- Baby Safety Swabs
- Nasal Aspirator
- Thermometers (I like to use both to ensure I’m getting a correct temperature)
- Dose Chart
Little Remedies® is a great brand that contains “everything they need, nothing they don’t” and are safe and reliable solutions for your little ones. One item I know I will be using frequently is the Gas Relief Drops for our newborn daughter. It works quickly to relieve tummy pain from excess gas and safe to use on newborns. It can safely help to ease gas, pressure and bloating in your little one. It is pediatrician recommended and works in minutes. It has no artificial colors, artificial flavors, alcohol, saccharin or parabens. Newborns and infants under 2 (under 24lbs) take 0.3mL and children 2 and over (24lbs and up) take 0.6mL.
Another great product by Little Remedies® is their Honey Cough Syrup. Although our newborn daughter is unable to use it as it’s intended for 12 months+ I plan to use it for my older daughter who is 3. It’s a 100% natural relief for little coughs with only 3 ingredients. You can also find this in the baby aisle and the 4oz. is on Rollback as well for $5.97!
Something I wanted to include in my healthy products container is a printable Dose Chart. With a new baby at home and all of the responsibilities that go along with it, your brain can get a little foggy. With this chart, you can write down when you gave your child the products they need, how much and at exactly what time. It’s a great way to make sure you are giving the proper dosage and allowing the correct time in between.
Click on the size below that you would like to print for your container.
Now that I’m feeling prepared and ready this baby can make its appearance! I’m such a planner and it’s so hard not knowing exactly when this baby will arrive. I’m hoping I’ll get to eat Thanksgiving dinner with a baby beside me and not inside of me! 🙂 What is your best advice for preparing for baby? What helps you feel prepared?
