One Room Challenge Nursery – Week 1

One Room Challenge Week 1 - Nursery - www.ruthietabone.comWell it’s time for round 2 of my One Room Challenge craziness!  If you missed it I shared week 1 of our bathroom reveal here.  Today I’m sharing all about the beginnings of our nursery.  When we moved into this house we wanted to make sure we had at least 3 bedrooms on the same level.  I didn’t want to have our daughter move to the basement once a new sibling was born.  We were lucky to have found this home with 3 bedrooms upstairs and 2 downstairs.  We were only looking for a 4 bedroom house but this was in our price range so we figured we could have some extra space to grow into.  Funny though…we have filled the house already.  Crazy how that happens.

Since we moved in, the 3rd bedroom had become kind of a storage area. It was an office for a short second and then a guest room for an even shorter second.  Mostly it became kind of a catch-all for random furniture – dressers, beds, desks, and the like.  After we moved the queen bed into Lucy’s room we started transitioning the baby furniture into the new nursery.  Here is how the room started:

Here is my checklist of things to do to create a beautiful nursery for my sweet little newborn girl (in no particular order):

  • Paint woodwork/trim
  • Paint ceiling
  • Paint walls
  • Change light fixture
  • Change outlets & switches
  • Wallpaper focus wall
  • Remove closet doors
  • Hang curtain rods
  • Hang drapes
  • Put bedding on
  • Hang shelves/artwork
  • Paint closet
  • Install closet system
  • Organize closet

Now here is my inspiration board for the project and how I hope for the final reveal to resemble:

  1. Girl, you’re nuts but I’m excited to see this room come together! We have that same crib in black for our little guy. It’s great, but watch out when she becomes a toddler…they tend to figure out it has wheels. We’ve found the bed in the middle of the room more times than I can count! Haha

    1. Haha that’s hilarious! I actually don’t have that exact crib but it’s pretty much identical! Mine doesn’t have wheels thankfully 🙂

    1. I love how different and unique nurseries can look!! I hope you share your nursery on the blog even though you aren’t doing it for the ORC!

  2. Congrats on you new home, I love all the choices such as the wall paper and the chandelier. Its going to be swoonworthy nursery. Look forward to the upcoming posts.

  3. This is the perfect girly nursery! I love the wallpaper that you picked out! I can’t wait to see how it goes on for you. Wallpaper is something that I have been avoiding. I just remember my parents putting it up as a kid and it was a big mess. lol I hope it goes smoothly for you!

    1. I had my Mom come and help me as she has done it many times! 🙂 I’m glad I didn’t have to tackle that one on my own but it’s not too bad of a project!
