DIY Wall Plates

I have two small spaces on either side of my china cabinet. I was thinking about ways to decorate it and I decided I wanted to create a wall of decorative plates.  I started researching about purchasing plates and of course, as always, I wanted to find a more affordable option.  I wanted to decorate some of my own plates as well as purchase a few.

I was at Hobby Lobby (my favorite store ever!) and found these adorable black, white and gold plates which inspired me to only use/decorate the wall with those colors.  I’ve always been obsessed with black and white but I am now loving adding touches of gold.

Since I wanted to make some of my own plates, I went to Dollar Tree and purchased 6 white plates in different shapes and sizes.  I then found these great paint pens at Target to use on the plain white plates.

I decorated them all in black and gold and created many different designs on the plates.  I didn’t really have a theme, I just decorated as I found an idea online or thought of an idea myself.

I started researching ways to hang the plates on Pinterest and came across an idea to use paper clips.  Since most of these plates were purchased at the Dollar Tree I wasn’t too concerned by gluing the paper clips onto the back of the plates.  I used Gorilla Glue as the adhesive and it worked great.

Note: When using a large amount of gorilla glue on the back of the plate you will want to let the glue dry over night.  (It says it will dry in 1-2 hours on the back of the bottle)  The glue also bubbled up and expanded so I had to cut off some excess glue the next morning before I hung the plates.

With the help of my mother I then hung the DIY wall plates up on either side of my china cabinet.  I love the simplicity of the plates as a decoration and I love how they really compliment the space.  I can’t wait to start working on my dining room table, chairs and bar cart and really make it a place I love.  I’m getting closer and closer to finishing product.  (Although I feel like a room is never done, there is always something else I want to do! haha)

I hope you are all having a great week!  I’m just recovering from having house guests since Friday.  We had a great time but it’s nice to get back to daily life.  Life is good!
