ORC Reveal Collage

I can’t believe that it’s the final reveal — Week 6 of the One Room Challenge!!  I’m so excited to share the final progress of my guest room!  Just a reminder here is what the ugly room looked like before…ugly wall color, mismatched furniture and lots of wood.  There was absolutely no rhyme or reason to this room…..it served as a dumping grounds for whatever needed a home.

To see each step of the way you can check out the previous weeks here:

Guest Room Before - www.ruthietabone.com

I wanted to create an oasis for my guests as well as a decorative and organized workspace for me! Blogging is pretty much a full-time job so I needed a place where I could work and enjoy the space I’m in! Let’s take a look at my to-do list:

  • Paint
  • Stencil Walls
  • Paint Bed Frame
  • Nightstands
  • Buy new lamp shades
  • Buy bedspread
  • Paint desk or not paint desk? – don’t paint desk
  • Desk Organization & Accessories
  • Jazz up Bookshelf
  • Curtains for closet & window – paint stripes on the curtain?  & hem curtains
  • Craft Room in Closet
    1. Find Storage for everything
    2. Paint Walls
    3. Remove shelf & Rod
    4. Paint desk inside closet/make a desk
    5. Create craft storage/desk storage

Wow, I can’t believe I got it all done!  I was a little worried at times but I made it happen! Alright, now for the final reveal!!!!

I have to say I’m quite proud of myself for learning how to “sew” in one evening.  Now I do NOT call myself a seamstress but I am pretty happy with my hemming skills with the small window curtains.  I wanted the same exact curtains as the ones I have on the closet.  Unfortunately, they did not come in the specific length I was looking for.  I guess that was my pull to learn to sew.  My mom had taught me a couple weeks ago and Tuesday evening she gave me a Facetime tutorial/refresh.  3 broken needles later and a few mess ups and I have hemmed curtains!!  Woohoo!

I have had this desk since I was in college.  My mom and I picked it up at the local Salvation Army.  The knobs and the top of the desk were painted yellow.  We luckily were able to scrape the paint off the top to reveal a beautiful top.  Then my mom spray painted the knobs.  I’ve always loved this desk and I love how it compliments the room.

Guest Room Reveal - www.ruthietabone.com Guest Room Reveal - www.ruthietabone.com Guest Room Reveal - www.ruthietabone.comGuest Room Reveal - www.ruthietabone.comI got these adorable desk accessories from the talented ladies at aliceandmarie.com.  I love the acrylic with the gold sparkle!  It’s soooo my style! 🙂  Also how adorable is this elephant business card holder from the Etsy shop DinosaursGalore?  I love elephants and thought it would look super cute and a great way to display my business cards for Lessons by Ruthie.  Now I need to find those business cards! 🙂

We are going to work our way counterclockwise through the room so that brings us to my new craft closet!!  I’m so excited that I now have a set place for all of my supplies!  Normally I’m searching through my home to find what I’m looking for!  A few things I did in previous weeks were decorate the bins, paint stripes on the wall and remove the closet doors and replace with curtains.  This past week I built this desk with an old filing cabinet (tutorial to come on Sunday), organized the items inside the closet, hung organizers and decorated.  I was very fortunate to receive the amazing hanging craft organizers from Organize More.  They are the perfect addition to my love for organization.  I always find it hard to keep these items organized and they are perfect!

I had an old Target bookshelf and I wanted to give it a little new life so I added wrapping paper to the back of it!  I love how it covers the cardboard folds to make it look nicer! There is more I’d love to do with this to make it look more expensive but I didn’t have time.  I would love to add some molding someday….we will see if I get around to it! 🙂

    Angela

    1. Thanks so much Angela! Yeah I broke 3 needles and messed up quite a few times hemming the curtains but I made it work in the end! I can say it was not my most favorite part of the process! 🙂 Thanks so much for reading and I’m so glad you love my blog! I’ve had so much fun participating in my first ORC!

  14. Ruthie, This space is gorgeous! Love all the black stripes and gold. The stencil wall is awesome. Now what room will you use to put all your extra stuff?

    1. Haha Tiffany, the age old question!! Haha right now the extras have either been placed in an organized fashion under the bed and placed in our 5th bedroom. That room needs to be organized badly! 🙂

    1. Thank you so much Linda!! And thank you for hosting such an amazing challenge! It certainly did challenge me but in the most amazing way! 🙂

  16. I highly recommend creating a feature wall with a stencil. It took a while but was totally worth it! I love the outcome of the room and it makes me happy every time I walk in there!

  17. OMGoodness! I don’t blog, I came upon your ORC reveal trying to go someplace else….but, I was captivated by that first glimpse of black and white. I’m absolutely green with envy over all you accomplished and how well it all came together. Now, don’t laugh…your frame with the household network key, well that’s what triggered my ” Ooh…why didn’t I think of that!!”, moment! If wishes were fishes, I’d have half the vision you have. WOW!

    1. Thank you so much Joyce! I’m very proud of how this room turned out and I love sharing it with my guests! Isn’t the wifi password fun!? Now anyone can get online without a problem!

  18. I love your guest room! You’re so talented! I have a few questions for you. The craft table in the craft closet, it looks like you made it parts of it. Also I absolutely adored the black and gold polka dot fabric on your chair but, in the final reveal it looked like it was all black. Did you change it or was it just the angle of the picture? I really love all your ideas and you have really inspired me. My bedroom is black and white but it needs a makeover. I also have a black bookshelf with two doors in it from target that I was thinking of selling in a garage sale this weekend. It’s in really good condition, I’m just bored with it .After seeing what you did with yours, I may take a picture of mine and send it to you to see if you have any ideas for me. That is if you don’t mind.

    1. Jill I sincerely apologize that it has taken me this long to get back to you. I had to take a couple months off from blogging because of a pregnancy I was going through. I’m happy to be back and feeling better! 🙂 I did make the craft table in my closet and if you search file cabinet desk on my site then you can find the tutorial. 🙂 The fabric on the chair didn’t change. It must have been the angle I took the next picture. I got the fabric at JoAnn’s Fabric. I’m so glad to have helped inspire you! If you have worked on the room since then I would love to see pictures! Feel free to email them to me at refashionablylate@gmail.com! Thanks Jill!
