One Room Challenge Week 4

ORC Fall Participatns 2015
It’s been a busy week with another busy week…okay 2 ahead of me.  You feel like you have all the time in the world with a 6 week challenge but man time creeps up on you!  We are at week 4 of the One Room Challenge.  This week’s focus has mainly been on getting the closet ready to make my dream craft center. Here is what I’ve done the first 3 weeks of the challenge.

Week 1  |  Week 2  |  Week 3

We started by painting the inside of the closet the bright white color of the walls.  I also gave the baseboards a couple coats of white paint so that it looked more unified with the walls.  We removed the shelving and rod to give the closet a little more space for my crafts.  I love how it looks so much brighter already with just one coat of paint.

I have decided what to do with my “dilemma” from week 3.  I have decided to paint the stripes on the inside of the closet instead of the curtains.  I am thinking of painting one stripe at the bottom of the curtains to give it a little style when the curtains are closed.  I felt that the stripes on the inside would be the easier of the two projects.  My husband and I measured and marked the stripes on the wall.  We borrowed a friend’s laser level and will be adding the tape and then paint to the walls this weekend!  I can’t wait to see the final outcome.  After that it’s time to put everything back in the closet.

Here is what my gorgeous guest room currently looks like.  Everything from inside the closet is piled on the bed. 🙁

One small project I worked on was giving new life to my old desk chair.  I gave it a fresh coat of spray paint and recovered the chair with new fabric.

I also wanted to take my old (and I mean old…I’ve had some of these since college) storage bins and give them a little style.  I cut pieces of paper to size and taped them inside the fronts of the bins to give it a more clean look.  This way if the insides of the bins get messy at times it’s okay because the clear front is covered in beautiful paper.  I love how it gives the classic storage bins a more organized and beautiful look. I also plan to put chalkboard stickers to the front so I can label the drawers for easy organization.

    1. Haha why get rid of something that has great storage?! They aren’t in amazing shape but definitely look better with the paper fronts!

  1. Looks amazing Ruthie!! Love the fabric you put on the chair! And that paper you put in the storage bins is a super simple way to make them prettier! Well done this week 🙂

  2. It’s looking really good, Ruthie! The chair turned out great and I like your idea to cover the plastic bin fronts–a pretty solution. Excited to see how the craft closet turns out!

  3. I cannot wait to see the craft closet!!! (Love the reality of the pile on the bed though). I also love what you did with the storage bins. Great idea for keeping everything looking neat and tidy, even it what’s inside the drawer gets messy. Good luck this next week!
