A Successful Thanksgiving!
This week has been such a great Holiday! My husband and I hosted our first Thanksgiving in our new home and I have to say it was a successful Thanksgiving! I feel so grown up! 🙂
We have always lived in apartments so it has always been cramped when family comes to visit. We have gradually increased our square footage of living space in the past year. When we lived in California we lived in a small but beautiful apartment in Aliso Viejo that was around 900 square feet. When my husband got the job in Minnesota we only had a weekend to find a place to live. We decided to rent because we didn’t know exactly where we wanted to live and we also needed to research the school districts a little more. The last place we visited ended up being the one! It was a wonderful townhome that features 2 beds, 2 baths, and a loft. It was perfect and we were stoked to go from 900 square feet to 1,700 square feet.
Within a few months, we were already starting to grow out of the townhome. Children sure do take up a lot of space! We decided it was time to maybe start looking for a house. We went to many open houses and then started working with a realtor. I was obsessed with looking at houses online…probably too obsessed. 😉 We only saw a few houses with our realtor and then fell in love with our current house. It all happened very quickly and we decided to put in an offer while we were visiting friends in Wisconsin over Memorial Day Weekend. Within 2 days of negotiating, they accepted our offer and I immediately started decorating our house in my head. We were fortunate enough to have scored a 5 bedroom, 2,600 square foot home. We were not looking for this large of a home but it was in our price range so why not?!
Back to Thanksgiving…although we had more space than we needed we had to do a little moving around to fit everyone. Currently, our dining room has been utilized as a playroom. We will eventually use part of the basement as a playroom but since we didn’t have a dining room table, we figured we could put our little one’s toys in the dining room. Another plus is that it is near the kitchen and living room, where we spend most of our time, so we can see her playing from either room on the top floor.
Right before Thanksgiving my husband, mom and I were a little addicted to Craigslist and trying to find great buys as well as free items to furnish our home for the Holidays! We were super lucky to find this beautiful dining room table for free off of Craigslist. It needs a little TLC but it has good bones and a beautiful frame. Did I mention it came with two leaves?! It’s huge!
We were also fortunate enough to have been given 8 Restoration Hardware chairs for free from a family friend in my home town. There is a great coffee house/wine bar in Spencer, IA called The Bear. Check it out! The chairs started to wear a little so they were in need of new chairs. So yet again I need to give these chairs a little TLC, but who cares! They are from Restoration Hardware!! Here is a link to the chairs on RH’s website.
I plan to refinish both the chairs and table in the new year and I can’t wait to share the finished product!
Since the table was a little worn we decided to use a table cloth to hide the imperfections. For having a table crammed into my daughter’s playroom I feel like it turned out pretty nicely. I hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving. I am very thankful for my family and I couldn’t have imagined a more successful first time hosting Thanksgiving! Now onto Christmas!!!!
