Baby Bundle Series: Nursing
Hey everyone! I’m going to have this baby any day now and I wanted to share some of my new favorite products for baby, siblings, and mom-to-be. You learn a lot after you have a child and your views/ideas change on products that you just had to have the first time around. I wanted to share some of my favorite products plus a few newer products that I think are pretty amazing. I will be sharing by different categories each day about items I can’t get enough of. If you missed it I also created a post on Packing a Hospital Bag The Second Time Around for a detailed second time list for all those mamas out there!
To start off the series I’m going to start with all my nursing favs. I know nursing isn’t for everyone but I’m really passionate about it and can’t wait to start nursing our new little one. I’ll be honest though it wasn’t a cake walk the first time around. It took a lot of hard work to be able to nurse successfully with Lucy. I wish people would be more open about how hard nursing actually is. I expected it to be super easy and a totally natural thing but it wasn’t for us. It took 2 months for us to have Lucy latch properly and for us to be nursing without tools and tricks. Crossing my fingers, this time around will be smoother as I know more about it.
Okay, time to stop blabbing and share some of my favorite nursing gotos:
Nursing Poncho
I’m trying out a new nursing cover this time around. With Lucy, I used a typical nursing cover with the wire front. I didn’t love it as the wire got deformed and I had a hard time keeping it on our daughter. I’m so excited about this poncho as it covers you in the front AND the back! I was always self-conscious that my back was hanging out of my shirt when nursing in public. Besides having full coverage of you and the babe it can also be used as a car seat cover, blanket or even a stylish outfit! I got the pattern shown above and absolutely love it! It’s so silky soft and comfortable!
My Brest Friend Nursing Pillow
This pillow was my godsend with Lucy. I purchased this pillow and the Boppy. Loved both for different reasons. I found this one a little easier to nurse with when Lucy was newborn as it’s strapped to you and didn’t curve in towards your tummy. It had a nice flat service for baby to lay on and then you could adjust where you wanted the pillow to lay for optimal nursing. I will definitely be using this pillow again at the beginning with our new little daughter. Plus it has a pocket if you need to store your nursing pads or even the TV remote! 🙂
Medela Freestyle Breast Pump
Another item I can’t rave enough about is the Medela Freestyle Breast Pump. It’s one of their highest end pumps and works great! I love that it’s on the smaller side and super easy to use! You can buy extra parts to go with the pump if you want multiples…which I recommend. It’s easy to clean and I love the travel case to store your breast milk with the ice pack that fits perfectly with the bottles. Lucy loved the Medela Calma Breastmilk Feeding Nipples which just screwed onto the pumped bottles. It was so easy to use and perfect for traveling! Plus the nipples have gone down in price since Lucy was born! It’s supposed to mimic the nipple and the suction for the baby. After Lucy and I had established nursing, my husband would give Lucy a bottle at night before bed so he had some bonding time while I pumped.
Medela Easy Expression Hands-Free Bustier
So it’s obvious I’m a fan of Medela. I seriously can’t rave enough about this item. It’s super silly but super amazing! I’ve talked with other nursing friends that would sit there and hold the pumps to their breasts the entire time they pumped. Why would you when you can be hands free? Now you can move around and do things! Our ritual was sitting on the couch pumping while my husband fed Lucy and then I played on my phone while we watched Breaking Bad. Yes we watched the entire series the first month of Lucy’s life. We felt like bad parents but it was so worth it! Now I do have a photo of myself in this but I think I’m spare you that site for now! 🙂
Nursing Bra
Just because your boobs are working hard doesn’t mean you have to sacrifice beauty. This bra is comfortable and beautiful all at the same time! I also go this adorable pajama set and robe from their website that I can’t wait to lounge in at the hospital. All are nursing friendly!
Aeroflow Breastpump Services
This service is really a great tool for expecting Moms. I came across it one day on Facebook and filled out their form and within 24 hours I was contacted by a rep to help me get a free breast pump through insurance. Yes I know I already own one but it’s always good to have a backup. Or to be able to keep one in a different place. Aeroflow Breastpumps work with various insurance providers and even offer a mom and baby website with a discount coupon for moms who maybe do not have insurance or insurance they are contracted with. Here is the link to more information regarding Aeroflow Breastpumps. I was able to get the Medela Starter Kit Pump through their program. All you need is a prescription from your doctor and they take care of the rest! I worked with Abby Elliot and she was wonderful to work with!
I’m excited to share all the items I love this week with you through my Baby Bundle Series. I can’t wait to use all of these products again once our little girl has arrived! It can’t come soon enough! See you tomorrow for the next installment!
