Mini Vase Makeover

I’m so excited to yet again be collaborating with some amazing fellow bloggers! We are starting a new monthly challenge called Create & Share. We are going to focus on either one item or a specific decor style. This month’s item was this cute little vase from Amazon. This White Petite Wall Mounting Ceramic Vase retails for $9.99. It’s super adorable and very versatile. With that being said our challenge was to do with it as we pleased.
Since I got a little chalk spray paint happy in my previous post about DIY Wall Art I thought I would continue the trend to this challenge. It was a fairly quick and simple DIY project…which is soooo nice because I’m mostly redoing furniture and that’s not always the quickest of projects! ๐
I started with a couple coats of Rustoleum Chalkboard Spray Paint. I liked the clean look of the white but I thought it would be fun to do the chalkboard so that I could switch it up with how I use it and it could be personalized.
I then used a Liquid Chalk Paint Pen to write “Basil” on the front of the vase. My husband is 100% Italian and an amazing cook so basil is used quite frequently at our home. If you use it a lot I highly recommend heading to Trader Joes because they have fairly large basil plants for only $3.99. It always lasts forever for us…when we water it! We can sometimes forget to water plants. ๐
I cut a section out of the plant out and inserted it into the vase. I then used a suction cup with a hook such as these to place it firmly onto the window by our sink. I figured if it is in a place that I’m at multiple times a day I’ll water it right?!
Well here’s a test to see how long I can keep this plant alive! ๐ Wish me luck! Now head on over to my friend’s blogs and see what amazing things they did with their mini vases!

I love it!!! Such a great idea to use a suction cup. I always forget to water my plants and the direct visual of the herb plant is a great idea. Thanks for taking part in the first Create and Share.

Yeah I figured having it right in front of me will help me remember to water it! ๐

Hi Ruthie……love this. The suction cup idea is wonderful. Having basil right in the kitchen is perfect. Great job!
Ruthie says
Thank you! ๐ Yeah I need to see plants multiple times a day to remember to water them! ๐

This is so cute and I LOVE how you have it attached on the window. I have been thinking of a way to hang my herbs with little wall space and no kitchen window…ugh! This is just the idea I needed! Thanks Ruthie!!
Ruthie says
Oh yeah I’m glad you are able to do this! Please share with me if you make it!

Ruthie this is amazing!! I love it! Can you believe I can’t even keep basil alive? Maybe this would work for me. And how did I not know Rustoleaum made Chalk spray paint?!?!? This is very exciting. Your vase turned out so great!
Ruthie says
Thanks April! I have a hard time keeping plants alive as well so having it right in front of me helps a lot! Hopefully that will last ๐

Thannks, Leah! Yeah it’s a great place to remember to water it for me! I’m not the best at that! I love fresh basil!

This turned out cute! I like how you chose to paint your piece instead of leaving it white!

Thanks Jessica! ๐

This is so great! It could make a lovely herb garden with a few more. Good luck! I only know how to keep succulents and cacti alive! Lol

I know! I wanted to buy a few more and create a littl herb garden but just wasn’t in the cards this month! Maybe next month!
