Cork Decor
I have always wanted to do a project with corks because well….I love wine! I have always kept my corks after finishing a bottle and they have been collecting for quite some time now. There are millions of cork projects on Pinterest and I felt I should just add to the list! 🙂
All you need are foam balls (I bought mine at Hobby Lobby), corks, toothpicks and time! Now let’s make some cork decor!
I bought a 6-inch foam ball and a 4.5-inch foam ball. I simply inserted the toothpick into one end of the cork and then inserted the toothpick attached to the cork into the foam ball. I started by lining up the corks in a straight line on the ball so that they would be aligned evenly. From there I started arranging the corks around the center line of the ball.
I felt like I had a million corks so it would be no problem to cover both of these balls. Unfortunately…I did not. I decided the whole ball wasn’t necessary anyway as the whole thing doesn’t show on top of my cabinets. I covered about half of each ball and left the back free of corks.
I really like the uniqueness of the use of corks and I think it will definitely be a conversation piece in our kitchen. They are a fun addition to my cabinet decor and there are a lot of memories associated with these corks!
In the above picture you can see the foam ball between the corks but when you aren’t up close it is not noticeable at all. The darn camera is just too good and catches everything! 🙂 If you wanted, you could spray paint the foam balls before attaching the corks. (I was too anxious to start the project so I just went with it!)
Looking into the kitchen from the dining room you can see the back of the larger foam ball so I better get to drinking so I can add more corks to the back! Unless you know to look for it though it’s not a big deal!
What projects have you done with corks? There are so many that I want to try but I don’t want to look like too much of a wino! 🙂
