One Room Challenge Week 2
Here we are at the One Room Challenge week 2! If you aren’t familiar or didn’t see my post last week, Linda from Calling it Home hosts a 6 week room transformation challenge. Over 170 bloggers are linking up and sharing their transformations. You can find the link up here. I have decided to transform my guest room. If you remember this is what the room looked like when I began….
I’ve decided I want to work in sections of the room so each week I’ll show you a different angle of the room! π Here is my to do list for the room:
PaintStencil WallsPaint Bed FrameNightstandsBuy new lamp shadesBuy bedspread- Paint desk or not paint desk?
- Desk Organization & Accessories
- Jazz up Bookshelf
- Curtains for closet & window
- Craft Room in Closet
- Find Storage for everything
- Paint Walls
- Remove shelf & Rod
- Paint desk inside closet
- Create craft storage/desk storage
So far I’m doing pretty well and have 1-6 done so I’m pretty happy! I think since the painting is done (the biggest project) the next biggest project I have left is to redo the closet and make it a craft closet. The closet transformation will be the most time consuming thing left to do in the room. The others hopefully won’t take too long. Although I always think something is going to take me an hour and without a doubt always takes longer! π
This past week I focused on spicing up the feature wall area. I started by making some night stands. I purchased 2 cheap round decorator tables from Walmart. Usually people buy a table cloth and then place round glass top on the top of them to dress them up. I did not want to cover them…I decided to paint them. Not the most fashionable side table but they work.
I started by spray painting the tables with Rust-Oleum White Spray Paint in Semi-Gloss. I wanted the tables to have a slight sheen to them. It took about 3 coats of paint because the fiber board on these tables just soaked all the paint in. Again…cheap tables. (If you were to use these tables daily I would not suggest getting these…but since they will only be used when guests are here I think they will stand up just fine.)
The next step was to add a little glam to them so I dipped taped off the lower section of the nightstand with frog tape. Then spray painted the legs with my new favorite gold spray paint, Krylon MAXX Metallic Gold Spray Paint. I’ve had a hard time finding it except for Walmart.
I also added a little spice to the area by buying new lamp shades….in gold sequins!! I love the lace with the touch of glam!
I had previously redid the headboard and baseboard and I will have a tutorial for it in the near future. Here is the before photo.
One last touch I wanted to make in this area was another way to welcome my guests. I love to sing and I love Disney movies. I thought this pillow case was the perfect addition to the guest room. As I said before I’m trying to incorporate as many of the Guest Room Must Haves as I can. I got this one from the adorable Etsy shop, AudreysHandMade. Isn’t it perfect in this space? It’s definitely a conversation piece.
I’m excited to start working on the next project in this room next week and continue to watch it transform! How is everyone else’s room going? I’ll see you next week for the ORC plus a I have a fun Halloween tutorial for you. Have a great weekend everyone!
*This post contains affiliate links but I love all of these products and stand by them…why would I use them if I didn’t like them! :)*
