Cleaning Toys the Safe Way
Raise your hand if you are sick of winter and snow and cold weather and….oh yeah FLU SEASON?! Me too! I feel like the flu season is still hanging on over here in Minnesota. A couple of months ago my older daughter got Influenza A and was so sick. It was so hard to see her hurt so badly and be so lethargic. I do not want her to go through that again so I thought I’d grab out my handy dandy Steam Machine from HomeRight.
This piece of magical machinery has been a lifesaver many times in our household. I’ve used it to bring my oven door back to life, cleaned floors, clean throw up to even removing wallpaper from my Mom’s dining room! It’s a machine with many talents! 🙂 This time around though I decided to clean up some toys that needed some sanitizing! “The SteamMachine uses pressurized, high-temperature steam to loosen and dissolve dirt, cut grease, and grime, expel stains, and sanitize your surface by killing 99% of bacteria.” – HomeRight. No chemicals are needed to get these toys looking and feeling brand new!
I began by cleaning the legos as they are a current favorite in this house. Plus my younger daughter loves to put them in her mouth so I love that I can clean these without harmful chemicals. So many times before I would grab a Lysol wipe and clean something up. If I can do it in a safer way I will be choosing the alternative.
This is also a super quick way to clean toys too so it’s really a win/win in my book! All you need to do is place your toys into plastic bins. You can clean them outside or place a towel on the floor or if you are like me and want to kill two birds with one stone…clean them in your shower!
I attached the Straight Adaptor to the steam gun and got to work! Make sure to spray the top, bottom, sides and all around your bins. You don’t want to miss any nook and cranny!
All that’s left to do is let the toys dry and move onto the next pile of toys. You can dump the toys out onto a towel and start with the next group right away. Then when you are finished with the toys give your shower or tub a good spray down! Why not if you have it out right?!
I love the feeling when something is clean! It really sparks joy inside of me and makes me so happy! Plus having something my children play with frequently be germless is a great feeling too! Germs and I don’t mix too well! Ha!
I hope you enjoyed this quick tutorial on cleaning your children’s toys safely! Stay tuned because this week I’ll be revealing our guest room bathroom makeover! You got to see a sneak peek above with the painted tile floors! I’m so obsessed with how it turned out and I can barely stand to wait to share the reveal with you all! Thanks for stopping by today and I’ll see you later this week! Happy Tuesday!
